Shane Ramee
Alumni
Degree Obtained: Ph.D. (2019)
Major Professor: Dr. Matt DiMaggio
Shane Ramee was a Ph.D. student who began conducting his research at University of Florida Tropical Aquaculture Lab in 2015 under Dr. Matt DiMaggio. He received his degree in 2019. Shane’s research focused on developing alternative protocols for the masculinization of sexually dichromic ornamental fish through the effects of environmental factors on sex determination. In addition, he spent a lot of time helping out with the day-to-day operations and other research projects of the lab. He often aided in the lab’s saltwater ornamental research when there was down time in this own project.
Shane grew up in Savannah, Georgia and completed his undergraduate degree at Washington and Lee University in Lexington, VA. After a few stints as a technician, he completed is M.S. at Mississippi State University under Dr. Peter Allen. His master's project focused on the development of hyposalinity tolerance and osmoregulatory ability in the Gulf Killifish Fundulus grandis.
In his free time, Shane enjoys all forms of fishing and exploring the local waterways by kayak.
