Micah has specialized in the field of aquaculture for over 15 years. Back in 2001, Micah first dipped his feet into ornamental aquaculture with the University of Florida's (UF) Tropical Aquaculture Laboratory (TAL) working on improving strains of the freshwater swordtail livebearer, Xiphophorus helleri. His Master’s research focused on grow-out of the saltwater ornamental clam Tridacna maxima in greenhouse recirculation systems. Micah transitioned to food production aquaculture projects, first with the UF Whitney Laboratory looking into alternatives to hard clam (Mercenaria mercenaria) aquaculture with native ark clams (Anadara ovalis and Noetia ponderosa) and then at Mote Marine's Aquaculture Park, researching low salinity aquaculture of Pacific white shrimp Litopenaeus vannamei. His next challenge was with the State of Florida Marine Stock Enhancement Laboratory working with brood stock, larval, nursery and fingerling intensive production aquaculture systems for the culture of red drum (Sciaenops ocellatus). Micah now serves as the farm manager at the TAL and helps in any way he can to advance the field of ornamental aquaculture.
Micah enjoys snorkeling, kayaking, hiking and spending time with his family (furry ones included) during his spare time.
