Laura Smith

Biologist

Laura came to the Tropical Aquaculture Laboratory in September 2019 to assist with live feed production.  She is currently working on a research project focused on ways to optimize culture methods for the copepod species Parvocalanus crassirostris and Oithona colcarva in order to make these species a more economical food source for aquacultured larval fish.
Laura is originally from Ohio and received her undergraduate degree from The Ohio State University.  She then began research in marine environments at University of Delaware where she studied the effects of climate change on trophic transfer between harmful algae and the copepod Acartia tonsa.
