Information for Aquatic Animal Importers

Spring Viremia of Carp (SVC)

  • The USDA Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) interim rule on importation of SVC-susceptible species is effective as of October 30, 2006.  The rule establishes regulations to restrict the importation into the United States of live fish, fertilized eggs, and gametes of fish species that are susceptible to spring viremia of carp (SVC).

  • A checklist has been developed to assist Florida importers of aquatic animals susceptible to SVC.

  • For more general information on viruses and spring viremia of carp, see the UF/IFAS publications Viral Diseases of Fish and Spring Viremia of Carp.
